How do encryption identities work?
Prose lets you encrypt your messages using end-to-end encryption. Each device (laptop, phone) connected to your Prose account has a distinct identity. Identities are what allows messages addressed to you, or sent by you, to be securely decrypted.
Each time you log in to your Prose account on a new device, a new device identity is generated, and will be published on your profile. This identity will be used to encrypt messages sent to you.
If you log out from a device, the identity can be erased from your local device, and unpublished from your profile. It means that this device will lose access to all future messages exchanged on your Prose account, guaranteeing that your messages cannot be decrypted on that device looking forward in time.
It is a good practice to periodically check for devices that you do not recognize in your encryption identities. You can easily revoke an identity from there.
Your encryption identities can be listed as such:
Open the Profile editor (in the bottom left menu bar).
In Encryption, you can manage your identities.
