# Setting up the Prose macOS application

**Prose is available for macOS as a standalone application. It is very lightweight and does not impact your Mac's battery when you are on the go. We advise using Prose's macOS app instead of the Web browser version.**

# Downloading Prose

Prose for macOS can be downloaded on the [Prose downloads](https://prose.org/downloads/) page.

| You need to select your Mac's CPU architecture. The Apple version is built for Macs running on Apple Silicon, while the Intel version is for legacy Macs running on Intel Core CPUs.

# Installing Prose

Once you downloaded Prose, mount the DMG file you just downloaded and drag the Prose app icon to your Applications folder.

Then, simply open Prose from your Applications, and log in to your account.

# Updating Prose

Prose is kept up-to-date automatically in the background for you.

Whenever an update is available, you will be prompted to update the application. The update is a one click process that only takes a few seconds on a fast Internet connection.
